The control box is the brain of the burner. It runs the start-up sequence (pre-purge, ignition spark, oil valve opening), monitors the flame through the photocell and locks the burner out in case of a fault, lighting the reset indicator.
The replacement must be the same type as the old one or an approved equivalent, because timings differ between models. Check the full code on its label, for example Siemens LOA24 or LMO14, and the base it plugs into. If the burner locks out, have a technician check it first, since the cause may lie elsewhere.
