Wood heating

Wood heating can cover anything from a living room to an entire house, depending on the unit you choose. In water-heating fireplaces and wood boilers, the heat passes into the water of the heating system and reaches every radiator. Warm-air fireplaces and wood stoves mainly heat their own room and, with air ducts, the rooms next to it. How to choose

• Water or air: if you want the whole house heated through the radiators, choose a water fireplace or a boiler. If the fireplace room and the rooms around it are enough, a warm-air fireplace or a stove is the simpler option.
• Circuit type: a water fireplace connects to an open or a closed circuit, or through a heat exchanger that keeps its circuit separate from the rest of the system. The connection kit is chosen to match.
• Output: consider the area you want to heat and the insulation. A fireplace that is too powerful for the space usually runs with its air supply turned down, which soots up the glass and the chimney.
• Wood only or other fuels too: the BioHydro Pellet fireplaces also burn pellets and olive pits, and the Hades boilers can be converted to pellets, which is useful if you want more automatic operation later.
• Firewood quality: well-seasoned, dry wood gives more heat and less soot. Allow for a place to keep it dry.
