The HP solar water heater combines the sun with a heat pump. Inside the tank there is a long coil designed for the lower water temperatures a heat pump delivers. A standard triple-energy heat exchanger is designed for the hotter water of a boiler, and with a heat pump it heats the water more slowly.

In winter, when the sun is not enough, the water is heated by the home's heat pump instead of the electric element, which remains as a third source. It is a sensible choice for homes that have, or are planning, an air-to-water heat pump.
