On a horizontal solar water heater the collector is fitted with its long side parallel to the ground. The unit becomes wider but much lower, while the collector area, and so the energy it gathers, stays the same. These are versions of the Mastersol ECO series.

They suit roofs where a standard unit would rise above the parapet, or where the available height is restricted. You will find them in dual energy (sun and electricity) and in triple energy, with a heat exchanger for the central heating.
