Gas Heating

Gas heating runs automatically, burns cleanly and needs no fuel storage inside the house. Where there is a network it connects to natural gas; elsewhere it runs on LPG from a tank or cylinders. In this category you will find wall-mounted condensing gas boilers from Riello and Fondital, floor-standing boilers such as the cast-iron Werstahl MT from our own brand, and Riello and Hansa gas burners for new or existing boilers.

How to choose

• Wall-mounted or floor-standing: a wall-mounted boiler is compact and hangs on a wall, often in a kitchen or utility area, which makes it a practical way to get independent heating in an apartment. A floor-standing boiler with a separate burner suits a boiler room and larger heating loads.
• Condensing: a condensing boiler recovers heat from the water vapour in the flue gases and uses less fuel, especially when the water returns cool, as with underfloor heating. It needs a condensate drain and a suitable flue.
• Domestic hot water: check whether the boiler produces it itself, instantly or with a built-in tank, or will be connected to a separate hot water cylinder.
• Burner and boiler: if you keep an existing floor-standing boiler, the gas burner must match its output and come with the right gas train. In many cases an oil boiler can switch to gas with a new burner; a technician should confirm this.
• Permits: gas installations must be carried out by a licensed gas technician, with the approvals required in each case.
