Without Heat Exchangers
A buffer tank without a heat exchanger is the simplest form of buffer. The heat source fills the tank with hot water and the radiator or underfloor circuit draws from the same tank, with no coil in between. Transfer losses are minimal and the connection is simple.
It suits installations where all sources share the same water, such as a pellet or wood boiler, or a heat pump that needs a volume of water to avoid short cycling. With a chiller, it also holds chilled water for fan coils in summer.
