Buffer tanks
A buffer tank stores the water of the heating circuit, not domestic hot water. While the boiler, heat pump or solar collectors are running, surplus heat collects in the tank, and the radiators draw on it after the source has stopped. The burner therefore starts and stops less often, which matters most with wood and pellet boilers. Connected to a chiller, the same tank can hold chilled water.
Mastersol buffer tanks come without a heat exchanger, with one or two heat exchangers for separate circuits (such as solar), and with a stainless steel heat exchanger. The size depends on the output of the heat source and the type of installation.
