Description

A fireplace that heats the whole house.

The Werstahl Hydro is a water-heating fireplace for wood. It connects to the radiators of the house, on a closed or an open circuit, and, according to Werstahl, can fully replace another heating system, such as an oil boiler.

It is built from 5 mm ST37-2 steel, with a 6 bar test pressure, and has a certified efficiency of 79.7%. Secondary combustion, at the back of the fireplace, feeds extra oxygen to the fire right after the primary combustion. Tertiary combustion, a vertical air flow in front of the glass, limits blackening from the smoke.

The door slides up on chains and also swings open sideways, like a normal door. The chimney damper and the air intake damper are included, and wheels on the base make it easier to move the fireplace into place.

            A door that slides upThe door slides up and the hearth stays open, like any fireplace. According to Werstahl, the chain system is German-made, silent and long-lasting.

            It also opens like a doorAs well as sliding up, the door swings open sideways, like a normal door.

            Chimney damperWith the damper in the flue outlet you adjust the flow of the flue gases and the intensity of the fire by hand.

            Air damper and wheelsAt the base, the air intake damper sets how much air enters the combustion chamber. Plastic wheels help you move the fireplace into place.

            A large hearthThe hearth measures 67 × 55 × 45 cm on the Hydro 30 and 85 × 57 × 55 cm on the Hydro 40 (W × H × D). Secondary combustion takes place at its back.

            Ceramic glass and durable paintThe ceramic door glass withstands up to 750°C. The paint is eco-friendly and odourless, made for energy fireplaces, and withstands up to 600°C.

Before installing

SizeWerstahl advises choosing a fireplace by the heat output of the radiators in the house plus 20-30%, not by floor area. E.g. radiators of 20,000 kcal × 1.30 = 26,000 kcal, about 30 kW.
CircuitClosed circuit: steady pressure, no water loss and less corrosion. Open circuit: simpler and cheaper to install, but it needs more frequent servicing and topping up with water. With a heat exchanger: the fireplace on an open circuit and the radiators on a closed one.

Does it heat the whole house?

Yes. It connects to the radiators and, according to Werstahl, can fully replace another heating system, such as an oil boiler. The model comparison shows the indicative heated space of each size.

Which size do I need?

According to Werstahl, a fireplace is chosen not by floor area but by the heat output of the radiators plus 20-30%. For radiators of 20,000 kcal: 20,000 × 1.30 = 26,000 kcal, about 30 kW, which means the Hydro 30. Call us and our engineers will help.

Closed or open circuit?

The Hydro works with a closed or an open expansion vessel, or with a heat exchanger, which combines the two. There is a connection kit for each, supplied with a detailed diagram. We will help you choose.

What do the dampers do?

The chimney damper adjusts the flow of the flue gases and the intensity of the fire by hand. The air intake damper sets how much air enters the combustion chamber. Both are included with the Hydro.

Does the glass blacken?

Tertiary combustion, a vertical air flow in front of the glass, limits blackening from the smoke. The ceramic glass withstands up to 750°C.

How does it differ from the Hydro PRO?

According to Werstahl's table, the Hydro PRO adds an opening door cassette, a large ash drawer and a provision for a biomass burner. Combustion, the dampers and the lifting and opening door are the same.

What warranty does it have?

How are delivery and installation done?

The fireplace ships by carrier throughout Greece, with the cost shown in the cart, or you collect it from our shop in Patras. An installer fits it; we can suggest a partner in your area.
