Description

The fully equipped Hydro.

The Werstahl Hydro PRO is a water-heating fireplace for wood. It connects to the radiators of the house and can fully replace another heating system, such as an oil boiler. Of the four models in Werstahl's Hydro range, it is the only one with an opening door cassette, a large ash drawer and a provision for a biomass burner.

It is built from 5 mm steel with automated TIG welds and has a certified efficiency of 79.7%. Secondary combustion, at the back of the fireplace, feeds extra oxygen to the fire right after the primary combustion. Tertiary combustion, a vertical air flow in front of the glass, limits blackening from the smoke.

The door opens in three ways: it slides up on chains and gears for everyday use, it swings open on hinges like a normal door, and for servicing and cleaning the whole door frame swings out. According to Werstahl, the mechanism is based on a worldwide patent.

A door that opens three ways

The door slides up or swings open sideways on hinges, like a normal door. For servicing and cleaning the whole door frame swings out, as in the photo, so the hearth and the glass are easy to reach.

For everyday use the door slides up on chains and gears. According to Werstahl, the chain system is German-made, silent and long-lasting.

It sets precisely how much air enters the combustion chamber. Combustion improves, efficiency rises and wood consumption drops, and you control the flame and the temperature more easily.

Chimney damper

Chimney damper

It controls the flow of the flue gases, the intensity of the flame and the temperature, and limits heat losses. Its handle sits low at the base of the fireplace, where it is visible and easy to reach.

Under the hearth grate, a large drawer collects the ash. You pull it out from the front to empty it.

Water tank

The tank holds 85 litres on the PRO 30 and 120 litres on the PRO 40. It stores more heat, for steady heating of the radiators and, with a hot water cylinder, of your hot water too.

Before installing

  • SizeWerstahl advises choosing a fireplace by the heat output of the radiators in the house plus 20-30%, not by floor area. E.g. radiators of 20,000 kcal × 1.30 = 26,000 kcal, about 30 kW.
  • CircuitClosed circuit: steady pressure, no water loss and less corrosion. Open circuit: simpler and cheaper to install, but it needs more frequent servicing and topping up with water. With a heat exchanger: the fireplace on an open circuit and the radiators on a closed one.
  • FlueFlue outlet 250mm.
  • PlumbingFireplace water content 120lt. You will find the connection kits for an open circuit, a closed circuit or a heat exchanger below.
  • SpaceOuter dimensions 92.5 x 158 x 77.5cm (W × H × D), hearth 85 x 57 x 55cm, weight 300kg. Allow for the room the door needs to open.

Does it heat the whole house?

Yes. It connects to the radiators and, according to Werstahl, can fully replace another heating system, such as an oil boiler. The model comparison shows the indicative heated space of each size.

Which size do I need?

According to Werstahl, a fireplace is chosen not by floor area but by the heat output of the radiators plus 20-30%. For radiators of 20,000 kcal: 20,000 × 1.30 = 26,000 kcal, about 30 kW, which means the PRO 30. Call us and our engineers will help.

How does the door open?

Closed or open circuit?

Werstahl gives three ways to connect it: a closed circuit, an open circuit, or with a heat exchanger, which combines the two. There is a connection kit for each, supplied with a detailed diagram. The choice depends on the installation; we will help you choose.

Does the glass blacken?

Tertiary combustion, a vertical air flow in front of the glass, limits blackening from the smoke. The ceramic glass withstands up to 750°C.

What is the biomass burner provision?

The Hydro PRO is ready for a biomass burner to be fitted. Ask us about the burner and how it is connected.

How are delivery and installation done?
