Solar Collectors

The solar collector is the part of a solar system that turns sunlight into heat. Inside the frame, under the glass, the absorber heats the fluid flowing through its pipes and sends it to the tank, either naturally in a thermosiphon or by pump in a forced circulation system. The collectors in this category are made by Mastersol, our own brand, with a selective coating on the absorber: it absorbs a large share of the sunlight and loses less heat to its surroundings, which shows mostly on cold and cloudy days.

How to choose

• Purpose: a new solar water heater, a forced circulation system or a worn collector to replace? For replacements, the size and connections of the old one matter.
• Area: total square metres follow from tank volume and use; each collector's dimensions are given in its name.
• Vertical or horizontal: a horizontal collector is lower, which suits low roofs or places where the system should be less visible.
• Construction: alongside the standard collectors there are Fullplate models; ask us which one suits your system.
• Orientation and shading: facing south, at the right tilt and free of shade around midday.
• Mounting frame: it differs for flat and tiled roofs and must withstand local wind conditions.
