Solar Forced circulation systems

In a forced circulation solar system the collectors sit on the roof or terrace while the tank is installed indoors, usually in the boiler room. Because the tank is not above the collectors, a circulation pump moves the fluid, switched on by a differential controller whenever the collectors are warmer than the water in the tank. This setup handles large hot water demand in big households, apartment blocks, hotels and commercial premises, and only the collectors are visible on the roof. How to choose

• Daily demand: it sets the tank volume; for businesses, peak hours matter as much as the daily total.
• Collector area: each tank pairs with different collector areas depending on orientation, shading and how much the system will be used in winter.
• Dual or triple energy: one heat exchanger for the solar circuit, or two, so that a boiler or heat pump can also feed the tank.
• Space for the tank: check ceiling height, doors and corridors on the way to the boiler room before ordering.
• Solar pump station: its pump and flow meter should match the flow required by the collector area.
